1 Hour Away From Hospital

Is anyone else far away from the hospital? Would you rush to the hospital if you were in hard labor and risk delivering on the way or would you deliver at home and then go?

Are any ambulances stationed closer to your home? In my area there are ambulances near fire stations. You should ask your doctor and definately read up on home birth.

Is there a hotel near the hospital you could possibly stay at? Home birth is just really scary to me - if something goes wrong, you won't be prepared to handle it. What if you end up needing a c-section? ...I would definatly check for hotels, or explain to any hospital staff that tries to send you home because you aren't pogressing that you live far away. I'm sure they would just let you stay at the hospital. I had a friend who did that.

Hi Jeriah, I live about an hour and 15 minutes away from the hopspital and I plan to go in as soon as I am in labor. If I get there and have not progressed far enough and they try to send me home I will be doing what Tracy suggested, I will explain how far I live, etc. There is no way I would try a home delivery. There are to many things that could possibly go wrong. Thats just my opinion though. What are you planning to do?

I am an hour away, and my doctor knows this. She doesn't think there will be a problem because labor is USUALLY slow going for first time pregnancies (of which I am -- are you?).

This is my fifth baby. We are preparing for a possible home birth.

If it turns out you have to have a home birth can you have a mid-wife attend you?
