Hi Ladies I am 36 weeks today and I went to the doctor this morning and she said that I am dilated to a 1 and I am 75% effaced. I am not 100% clear on what effacment really means. I know when I had my son I was dlalated to a 1 and 75% effaced at 36 weeks and I had him a day shy of 37 weeks. What do you think the odds of this happening again are? Thanks for and advice

You're unusual because usually a second-time mother will dilate before effacing. Effacing is the thinning and shortening of the cervix, basically getting ready to be able to dilate. In most cases once you're 100% effaced labor is coming quickly, and since you have a history of early births, you're pretty likely to go early but since you're still at 1 cm it's quite early. Just make sure you pay attention to those contractions now!

That is the other weird thing is I really haven't had any contractions and I never did with my son either. The only reason I knew I was in labor was because my water broke then I was given pitocin to make me have contractions. I guess time will tell.

Eek, lol! You are an unusual one. I guess just don't be surprised if little one gets here early you lucky duck.
