Well yesterday I had a doctors appt. and I am 3.5 - 4 cm dilated, and im 100% effaced! Well yesterday I was having some very bad back pains and tightening in my tummy... I am still getting them! They come and go! Well I been having diahrea*SORRY TMI* and i was reading in a book that may be a sign of labor starting! I lost my appet_te towards alot of things also.. What does this mean? am I in active labor yet?

corrine have you started timing these pains? and tightening in your tummy? I bet if you are having contractions there is no reason they wouldn't keep you as you are already at a 4!

according to my pregnancy book, early labor is when you dialate yp to 3cm and also efface, and can be accompanied by back-ache, menstual-like cramps, contractions, loose bowels, etc... and they const_tute active labor as dialtion from 3-7cm, although they characterize this by the contractions becoming stronger and closer together, but it says you may not realize this is happeneing until you reach transition, especially if you have been dialating /effacing over a period of a week or too...so while i'm certainly no expert, i would say you are in some part of active labor? (are your contractions becoming any stronger or closer together?) if so, then i would say yes, but it appears there is a fine line, at least by medical terminology terms, when this actually is... good luck!!

when i had my daughter, they told me once i hit 4 cm i was considered to be in active labor. but my sister went (a different hospital) in at 5 cm and they said since her contractions weren't really regular they weren't going to keep her. that was at midnight and she went in at 4 am and she was fully dilated! if you think this may be it, i would definitely call your dr and see if they want you to come in just to be safe. good luck!!!

I am still getting these pains, which are uncomfortable... Its now starting from the front and going to the back and my tummy is like a ROCK! but they still come and go.. like evry 13-15 minutes... sometimes there sooner then 13 minutes.. So should I call my doctor or wait an hour or 2 and see if they get stronger and closer together?

They would need to be closer together and if it gets to the point where you can't talk through them then your probably in labor. I'd say wait it out for the day and see where it takes you. Good luck!!

oh, how exciting!!! i know that if i called my doctor and i was only having them 13-15, they would tell me to stay home until i was having them more like 7 min apart or so(ps..it is my second baby), but i think that since you know you are already dialated at least 4 cm that if you feel like this is it or are worried about not getting to the hospital in time, you should call.(do you live close?) i have heard that just because your contractions do not get really close together or really regular, doesn't mean that you aren't progressing, they might not get regular untiil transition, it's more so as long as they are getting stronger, and certainly if you get too uncomfortable to talk through them or are having trouble dealing w/ them, i would definitely say CALL or GO!

Holy:| I was having a really major back cramps and went to the H and dilated 2cm. and they kept me in and broked me water, gave me epidural..i was dilating every 2 hours. you should go to the H and check for another dilation. I was contracting like every 3-5minutes though..But if its like..bothering you, go to the H or something

Well Im still feeling the same.. More pain though and i am getting a head ache... The pain starts in the front and goes to my back now, and my tummy is rock hard when that happens!

Maybe you should go to the H, I think you may be in labor.
