Any Weird Cravings

When I was a little kid, I used to light matches, blow them out, and eat the tips off & I used to go to ash trays and lick my finger, stick it in the ashes and lick the ashes off of my fingers. I have been craving that taste again...the ashes and the sulfur from the matches.

Hey j you are not alone. I did the same thing with the matches. Not the ash tray though. No one smokes in family. But I did and do like the cigar smell. I am now pregnant and I crave for chalk. Did you ever try that? So what I do is eat potato starch. You should check your iron it is probably low. That is what happened to me.

lol! I always loved having the duty of cleaning the chalk board erasers because I LOVED that smell and the smell of dirt. I am such a weirdo! Potato starch? I love raw potatoes.....is that the same? Geez...I AM weird. LOL!

I've also been craving to do stuff that I know I can't do...like have a smoke, have a drink...anything to be a rebel. I haven't done any of those...but I think my body is ready for this child to come out! I'm almost 35...so, not much time left!

Those types of craving are called "pica" and they may signal anemia.

I've have my hemoglobin checked and I'm not anemic and I'm taking iron supplements too. I don't know what could cause the weird cravings. I'll mention it to my dr.

J we just have that; there is nothing we can do. I was like that ever since I remember myself. By the way j I am also on my 35th week. Due on Dec 25? And YOU?

J - November 17

Tati - I'm due Dec. 23rd. :) But hoping this little man comes a little sooner. My dr. didn't expect me to make it to 34 weeks 'cause I have a retarded cervix...lol. So, I'm hoping I go in the next few weeks 'cause I'm getting TOO big! Also, DH & I are moving to a different place Jan. 1...soooo, it's going to be hard to move right after giving birth!!!

I was goodle "pica" yesterday and it said something about watching your child for it once they come...especially if you had it during childhood. Do you know if there is any truth to that? Is it hereditary?

I think it may be true. My mom used to eat chalk when she was younger. But hopefully your baby is alright. Good Luck.
