Is anybody taking/has taken Glyburide for Gestational Diabetes? Do they help lower your blood sugar? any side effects? Are they safe for the baby? TIA

I'm taking this. The first few days kinda sucked, because there were a few times that my blood sugar got too low. That's an AWFUL feeling!! If that happens (chills, dizziness, nausea), drink some juice. After the first few days though, my body adjusted just fine, and I haven't noticed any side effects. It definately helps with my numbers.

Thanks Traci76! My Dr. just prescribed this for me because my numbers are still pretty high after 10 days on diet. I'm still not used to eating at the same time. So you're on diet and taking this? it's good to know that the medicine helps. Thanks again..

(Same response I posted to the Pregnancy Complication forum) . . . I was diagnosed with GD at 11 weeks and started taking 1.25 mg of Glyburide at night at 14 weeks to keep my fasting levels down. My fasting level went down over 20 mg/ML. The doc recently upped my dosage to 2.5 mg at 25 weeks cuz my readings started creeping into the 90's. I haven't experienced any side effects. You do need to watch out that you don't crash especially in the middle of the night, so keep up with your snacks. Any medication is always a trade-off. You have to way the risk of high blood sugar vs. taking medication. If you can control GD by diet alone, that's the way to go.
