Anyone Had An Intrathecal

My hospital doesn't do epidurals, they do intrathecals instead. I'm told it's very similar to an epidural, but you can move your legs, and don't have to keep a shunt in your back the whole time. However, I also just found out that it's morphine mixed with some other drug. I really don't want morphine! Has anyone ever had this? What did it do for you? Did it lower your blood pressure? Did it stop you labor? (Nurse told us it could do this).

That's what I'm having too. I've never had one before, but several of my friends have. They have all said it was awesome. I'm going to look at the pluses instead of the minuses on this one...I figure if I don't get it, then I'll have to face the pains of going all natural, which is not something I think I want to do. I'm due Wed, so if I have my baby, I'll post my story and let you know how it worked....I hope I have my baby soon!

That sounds really interesting 'cause I am so afraid of getting an epidural and having that thing in my back the whole time, YET...I do want to be as close to 100% pain free as I can be with drugs! So, definately keep us posted!

The only thing I'm worried about is the medication wearing off. With the epidural, you have the port thing in your back and they can give you more if you need it...with the intrathecal, it's a one time shot in the back. My dr. said they wouldn't give it to me until I'm 5 cm...that could be painful!
