Anyone Told To Have A C Section

I am due Sunday, and just came back from my internal. I am 1 cm dilated, the baby's at -2, and I am effaced, but I forget how much- atleast 50%. I have been 1/2 cm, -3, and 50% since my 36 week appt. On Sunday I had false labor for 1 1/2 hours and as you can see, it didn't help my baby move along much. So, the point is the Dr said that the baby is 8 lbs or more, and my pelvis is possibly too small for him and I should consider a C-section b/c labor would be really long and I might end up having one any way. So he scheduled the C-section for Monday- just in case. I just haven't heard of this being done much, so was wondering if anyone else has. Thanks :)

I have heard of this just based on my readings about C-sections. If your pelvis is too narrow for the baby to pa__s, it is often recommended to consider a C-section. Do you really want to try to deliver v____ally?

NO!!! As a matter of fact, I am petrified of it and have been since I was little. With a C-section I sort of feel like well, it's just another surgery.

Stacy- if your afraid of a v____al delivery, then maybe a c-section is a blessing in disguise. I don't know of many scheduled c-sections. Most of my friends have had to have them after hours of agonizing labor. I had one friend who had a short cervix. Was on bedrest for 4 months. She is the only one I knew that had a scheduled c-section. Good Luck

thanks for the help/advice. As the day goes on, I feel like maybe it is a good thing (let me make sure the insurance covers it the same way though before I fully agree).

Stacy - I may be having my c-section on Monday as well.....doctor said Monday or Tuesday! My baby is breech though so mine is a little different. But I find out the for sure day on Friday. I'm sure everything will be great and like they mentioned - maybe its a blessing!

Kel- good luck :) My baby started off breech, but ended up turning himself around.

If you read back posts here, you'll gather that doctors can guess what the weight of a baby still in utero is, even if an "educated" guess. Some women were telling stories of babies their docs told them were 10 pounds, but wound up being 7 pounds. My gut & education tell me that obs will say anything these days to get a woman to have surgery. It's especially easy for them because you're under anethesia, under their knife. Obstetricians are first & foremost surgeons, which is a fact unknown to many pregnant women. And in this country, they seem to want to do c-sections more & more nowadays. Really. Twenty years ago, the rate of c-sections in the US was 5%... it's nearly 30% now. In some individual states, it's even higher than that! So beware. Unless you or your baby are in true distress that can be proven beyond a doubt, watch out for that doc of yours. We'd like to think they have our best health interest at heart, but often times it's their own. Good luck!

And by the way, just because he scheduled you for something, doesn't mean you have to show up. Remember, it's your body; it's your baby!

Thanks meme, I'll keep it in mind- I know what you're talking about though, they thought my neighbor's baby would be big, but she was only 7lbs 4 oz.
