how do you tell the difference between real contractions or braxton hicks?

Ami, I wish I knew the answer to that question too. I have been having contractions since 32 weeks and it's driving me crazy. I have already been to the hospital once or twice thinking I could be in labor, but wasn't. (The first time I was but it was too early they had to stop it.) I swear I won't go back till the contractions are really painful because the nurses weren't helpful at all. They hooked me up to the machine wrong and it wasn't reading my contractions. I finally moved it myself and it started reading them, and then the nurse came in and told me to go home. I was like but........ and she said yeah we aren't concerned about one. She wouldn't give me a chance to tell her they didn't have it on right. So hopefully I KNOW for sure when I'm in labor cause I don't even want to go back. And that sucks too, cause some women don't even know they are in labor.

What is it with insensitive labor and delivery nurses? I haven't experienced it personally yet, but I've heard some horror stories about it. You would think that a prerequisite for the job would be to have compa__sion for pregnant women no matter what their problem or complaint is. After all, pregnant woman are who they will be dealing with 95% of their career! I'm 36 weeks and just hope to God I don't get one of those cranky nurses. They will be sorry!!!!
