anyone know if this is normal? my dr. checked my cervix about 2 hours ago and i am having pretty bad cramping now. he said my cervix is about 75% thinned (not sure what that means) but i am not dilated yet. he said i should be dilated some next week.

after prostaglandins softens and ripen your cervix, it further prepares for birth by thinning out the cervix or effacing it. the cervix is normally an inch and a half to two inches long and will become paper thin as it stretches and pulls over the baby's head. no changes to the cervix-0% effaced, cervix is half of the normal thickness-50% effaced, completely thinned out-100% effaced. i hope this helps. but i also got an exam yesterday and it hurt so bad. she didn't tell me yesterday how effaced i was but last weeks appt. she said i was 75% effaced or thinned. she did though tell me yesterday that i was 1cm dilated. since then i have been having very sharp pains in my v____a and my a__s. and i spotted a little bit afterwards. i don't know what all that means but i'm guessing it's because she was messin around up there

It is normal to have cramping after an exam. I am 36w and my last 2 exams I cramped a bit afterwards...so far I haven't bled any after though. all my doctor told me is no more s_x for me and my hubby because she is afraid it will cause me to go into labor....at 34 weeks I was already 3cm and 50% effaced. It could still be weeks or maybe just days. You never know.
