I am 39 weeks and 4 days, I just went to the Dr. and he said that I was 2-3 cm. dilated. This is my first baby, does that mean anything??

means your cervix is 2-3cm open. your cervix needs to get to 10 cm for you to be able to push the baby out. Good luck with the short time remaining in your pregnancy, your in the home stretch.

I meant, does that mean labor will start soon or not?

unfortunately it doensn't mean a whole heck of a lot. Woman can walk around for weeks being dilate (I am one of them)....I have been 3cm since 34 weeks, I am now 37 weeks, still 3cm and about 70% effaced.......so it really is no indication as to when you will go into labor.

Wow, thanx, Tammy, that's what I thought

I know how bad it sucks...you get all excited thinking you are making progress and that it could be any day, and then three weeks later, there is no change....bummer!!

nope, ive been 2cm for over 2 weeks already, I go today for another check. It really doesnt mean much, Ive been even having s_x alot hoping that it would speed things along, nope!

hello i am 29 weeks and at 1 1/2 cm and my doc put me on bed rest and he really thinks the baby will be here with in 6 weeks. if being dilated dosent mean any thang why does he have me so worred and on bed rest

bridgettebaby2, being 29 weeks and dilated is a bit soon to be dilated, but it still really is no indication as to when you will go into labor. Did they do the FFN test on you? If they have not, ask them about it and it will tell you if you are at risk for pre-term labor.......but like I said, it is hard to tell if it is an indication that labor is near or not...My doctor after she checked me at 34 weeks thought I would for sure go by 36 weeks and here I am at 37 weeks still pregnant and still 3cm........so you can walk around dilated for weeks with no change. They probably put you on bed rest for now just as a precaution because with as early as you are, you don't want things to move along quite yet.

what is a ffn? i dont think they did that on me. but he really thinks she will be here soon

Tammy276 - March 9

ffn = fetal fibronectin.......its done kinda like a pap where they take a swab of the secretions behind the cervix......don't freak out because your doctor "thinks" you may go early......he can't predict when you will deliver....there have been times where doctors say "Oh, any day now, your going to go early"....and women end up going 2 weeks past their due dates.

no he hasnt done that. do you think if i ask him he will? he says my cervixs are soft and low.

Tammy276 - March 9

I'm sure if you ask him to do it they will, I'm really surprised they didn't do it.
