When I went to my 36 weeks appointment I was 40 % effaced....does anyone know how long it usually takes to get to 100 %?? Also, what causes effacement and what happens after you hit 100%?

Well, when you become 50% effaced, it means labor is right around the corner. When your cervix has completely effaced (100%) then that means you are ready! There is really no answer to how long it takes for your cervix to efface! All women are different. I read it!

efface is how soft your cervix is...so it means that your cervix is soft...what causes effacement..(1 nature) but s_x and certain foods. Some women efface first and then start to dilate...but some women efface and dilate almost at the same time...but first time mommys usually efface and then dilate....and how long it takes ITS DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE.

i don't know that being effaced 50% means labor is right around the corner (but man, do i wish that were true for me!!!). i have been 50% effaced and 1cm for 2 weeks now, still no labor and i don't expect it to start anytime soon either. you just really never know. i am 37w
