Episiotomy Procedure

My doctor told me he doesn't do episiotomies at all...has anyone had a child without, and what procedures do they do to prevent tearing? Is this normal for a doctor NOT to do episiotomies?

most doctors are phasing them out. I think thats a good thing. Ask your Dr if you are at a high risk for tearing/ripping during delivery, what his plan is. does he have an alternative? most episiotimies ARE avoidable, but once in a while they are important, especially if you wind up needing vaccuum or forceps, or the baby gets stuck. ... ask him what he does in those cases, I bet he will say he will then do an epis..
