I am currently 37 weeks and have had the worst last 2 days.=( It all started with contractions 5 min. apart. I called my hospital and found out my doctor was out for the weekend. The lady on call told me contractions needed to be closer together then to come in. She was rude! She says how long was your first labor, I said 9 hours, and she said oh jeez you have plenty of time then. Women can deliver in less time the 2nd pregnancy, at least I thought. So we waited around the house for a while, I did lots of stuff to see if they would stop, took a bath, laid down, walked ect. ect. About an hour later we went to my mother in laws cause she lives in the town where the hospital is 1/2 hour away from our house.Contractions began coming every 2 minutes lasting a minute or longer so we went in to the hospital. That was at about 10 :30 the lady checked me and said I was a good 4 or 5. We waited till 2 am for the on call doctor to come in.She was a total bi$%h. The nurses called her like 5 times and thats after they talked to her the first time. There was 2 other pregnant women that went in the same time as me. Good thing none of us delivered! She told me I was dilated maybe to 1 1/2 centimeters! What the h__l!! That was a big let down. She said I was having good strong contractions, but that I was not progressing. She gave me a Vicodin and sent me home. Ok, are pregnant women suppose to be taking vicodin???!!!! I diddn't want to take it but she made me before I could leave. She said if I was woke up by contractions than to come back in because if anything was going to wake me up after I took that pill than it was real. She said she supspected to see me back in a few hours. I assumed it was all real and that was that. I woke up at 8:30 this morning, no contractions. I truely believe it was real and that vicodin stopped it, cause I was still having good contractions a little while after I took the pill. At the hospital they were going off the chart. I called my doctor cause she was back this morning, and she said it was false labor. So ok, we come home from mother in laws, my husband went to work. (Don't read the rest if you have a weazy tummy TMI) I had to go pee and when I did I felt something betweeen my legs, so I wiped and when I did it just strung. I literally had to pull it out. It was long snotty stringy, lookin with a couple little blood spots in it. I think it was my mucus plug but not sure, what do you think? To top it all of I slammed my pinky in our door today, breaking a bone, tearing of the nail, ans almost the tip of my pinky, it was just hanging on. So I spent more time at the hospital today. Well I just wanted to see what your guys input is on everything, and I'm sorry for venting so much!-Kari

Ugh, you poor thing!!! I don't know anything about Vicodin, but if it did stop your labor, that stinks. And it sure sounds like you lost your mucous plug. And after all that, to slam your pinky that hard in a door, that is just another hit to your wounds. So sorry you are having such a hard time and I hope you go into labor again soon!

Thanks Honey B! Things just been so hard and stressfull. I am 25 and raising my 16 year old brother since he was 12 due to my mother dieing of cancer. Now that he's 16 things are getting hard! This whole pregnancy thing is different cause I was induced with my first.I wish my mom was here, I feel like things would be so much better!=(

I went in labor at 37 weeks... but didnt have the contractions, i just had a slow leakin water breakage lol only way i can describe it, it was the same with both my boys, expect the 2nd one wasn't earlii... but i never heard of that pill before :S... is that what it's for... to stop labor or what?

As far as I know Vicodin shouldn't stop your contractions, but I'm not 100% sure. I have heard not to take Vicodin during pregnancy (although I'm sure the 1 pill this far into the pregnancy is not going to be a big issue like it would be if you were taking it regularly throughout the pregnancy). I have also heard that Vicodin can decrease the babies breathing if taken shortly before you give birth (so if you take it then have the baby a few hours later the breathing can be slowed). If this is true then I would definitely not be taking it/or prescribing it if there was a chance the baby was going to be born in the next few hours...so not really sure if it's standard to give it to women who may be in labor/going into labor, but I do wonder about the doc giving it to you. The stuff you saw when you used the bathroom sounds like the mucus plug and I wouldn't worry about that. I am sorry that you've had such a c___ppy last couple days. Just try to stay relaxed and focus on the fact that your baby will probably be here in the next few days. HUGS and good luck

I dont think Vicodin would have stopped your labor, but i am no doctor. The doctors at the hospital could have been nicer and a bit more caring. I mean for go sakes your having contractions regardless and they dont tickle. And as far as them telling you that you have plenty of time since your first labor was 9 hours, that is such bologna, that is like telling you that just because your first baby was born on 39 weeks every other child will be born at the same time and date. They dont know, just like our due dates are really a estimate of when they think we will go. I am sorry to hear about your pinky and hope it heals well, what a awful way to end a awful day. I hope your next contracts progress into labor quickly for your sake. Good Luck.

kades_momma it must be hard rasing your brother and being without your mother for this time of your life. I cant say I know how you feel, because i dont but i want to tell you that i give you great praise for being as strong as you are and taking on the responsiblity of your baby brother, not everyone on would have!! You are a strong woman and I am sure your mother is with you always whether you can see her or not. Good Luck!!

Heres what I read about the medicine-FDA pregnancy category C. This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby, and could cause addiction or withdrawal symptoms in a newborn. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Vicodin can pa__s into b___st milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are b___st-feeding a baby. It is a pain reliever for those of you that diddn't know. I'm still hangin on and no contractions yet! I go to the doctor monday so hopefully I have dilated a little more, she gets to change my bandages on my finger to, oh yeaa! Will keep you all posted! Thanks!
