Do they test you for Group B Strep with all of your pregnancies or would the 1st one suffice. Just not sure if I will be expected to do this test with baby #2

I've been tested with all three of mine. I just had mine done yesterday (35w 1d).

how do they test for strep b? My mom had it when my sister was born and they did not test back then and she was very sick when she born. In a routine pap it showed up, so I definately want to make sure I am tested for it! How and when do they usually do that? Thanks!

Usually its done about 35 weeks. They take a cotton swab and run it over the skin around the outside of the v____al area as well as teh skin around the rectal area, nothing too bad. If you have it they will put you on antibiotics during labor so that it isnt pa__sed on to the baby during birth.

As far as I know Group B Strep can come and go throughout your life so they'll probably check you with every pregnancy. I had it with my daughter so I just received antibiotics during labor. I didn't have any complication with it and baby was born very healthy.

Not sure the protocol for ALL Doc's offices but they should actually run the swab INSIDE of the v____a and INSIDE of the rectum to get an acurate culture. I believe that if you test positive with it with previous preggos or are diagnosed with a UTI caused by it while pregnant then they will automatically put you on Antibiotics when you are in labor. If you DON'T test positive for it in prev. pregnancies then you will be re-tested during each pregnancy. Hope that helped!
