Has anyone had high blood pressure? I'm not showing any of the other signs of pre-eclampsia, but my dr put me on bed rest. I'm 39 weeks pregnant and due in 5 days (sept 1st). I really need to work the next two days since my leave replacement doesn't start until net week, but I'm scared to go in since my dr said no. But, I fell she is airing on the side of safety since she doesn't want to have a problem. If I sit in my chair all day is that ok???? ANyone who knows about this would be a great help. Oh, my blood pressure was 150/88. Thanks!

my BP was that high the whole second half of my last pregnancy (I am 12 weeks with #2 now). I was put on 'restricted activity', which meant no exercise, and lots of rest. It ended up being no big deal. I rested a lot since I had no other children at the time, and I had just stopped working. I had to go for non-stress tests weekly just to be sure everything was ok. I ended up being induced 5 days before my due date. Since you are 39 weeks already, what is the big deal if you go into labor the next few days? Obviously take care of your self and that baby, don't over due it, but I don't see a problem in going into work. Just my opinion

Hi Julepowers, I had really high BP pretty much my whole pregnancy. Ended up leaving work 3 wks before due because of it. As soon as I gave birth it went to totally normal. Your doc is looking out for you and I would take her advice and leave work. You need to be resting and if your BP down!! Work will still be there. Its the stress that raises it.

Oh it was not pre-eclampsia. It was just high BP

Hi jule, i am currently 36 weeks with baby 2. With my first baby in 2006 i had the same thing as you. blood pressure fine all pregnancy then in the last week it went up. The reaso this is a worry is that it CAN lead to pre-eclampsia, and pre-eclampsia can come on very quickly when yo develop it so late in a pregnancy. The good thing is, that you are full term so if it shot up further you could be induced, no problem. blood pressure of 140/90 or higher is considered high (if your usual blood pressure is within the normal range). For me, i was put on bedrest in hospital at 39 weeks with blood pressure of 140/90 and had my pressure taken every 4 hours, a scan and also fetal movement tests twice a day, urine tests and blood tests daily (this was all incase it developed into preeclampsia) my blood pressure did get higher but i was put on meds and never developed preeclampsia so luckily went into labour naturally at 40 weeks exactly and had a healthy baby boy. Yes, your doctor is trying to be safe...but...without freaking out about it...preeclampsia is very serious and mothers can have fits, strokes..and babies can die from this disease. It is unlikely it will happen to you BUT no one knows who will get it and who won't so it's better to be safe than sorry. I would suggest you buy or hire a blood pressure monitor and take your blood pressure yourself every 4 hours, if it gets quite high then definitely call you doctor and stop work. I can't say that bedrest really helped me to be honest, it just make me more anxious...but..obviously just try to not over do it at work. If your pressure does shoot up all of a sudden, you are right on top of it and can be induced. Sorry to ramble, but, i have read So much about this after it happened to me! thank goodness i never got preeclampsia but it's tiring and scary wondering what ''might happen''. I'm hoping my blood pressure stays fine until delivery this time but you just never know. Can i ask what your blood pressure was at your previous appointment- the one before it increased? Best of luck, I'm sure you'll be fine! Just try and relax and as i said, if you go to work then just keep an eye on your blood pressure yourself...also look out for significant swelling in your feet/ankles, hands, face....this can also be a warning sign- never happened to me. I think some people just get pregnancy induced high blood pressure..which can be ok like it was in my case..but it can be very bad. Take a look at some preeclampsia websites not to scare you, just to keep yourself educated! Best of luck!
