I was wondering how long do women normally stay in the hospital after having a baby? Im trying to pack my bag and I don't know how long to pack for.

It may vary from hospital to hosptial. I know it also depends on your delivery. You stay longer if you get a c-section (usually 3 nights). If you deliver v____ally its 1 or 2 nights. I know two women who both delivered v____ally, one was natural birth and she only stayed 24hours. The other used an epidural and she had to stay 2 nights.

If v____al usually 48 hrs (2 days) and if c-sec 96 hrs. (4 days) You can also call your insurance people to find out. Every insurance co. is diff.

Federal law dictates the 48 hour rule for v____al and 96 hour rule for c-section. Hospitals cannot kick you out before that, and I believe insurance has to support those rules as well.

I delivered my son at 3pm and left the hospital by 1pm the next day. I delivered my dd at 6 pm and left at noon the next day.

If you feel up to it, you can leave whenever you want. I know women who had homebirths who were up and about and just fine about an hour after they had their babies.
