I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I just came from seeing my doctor and he told me I was 1 cm dilated. Which I wasn't surprised because I started feeling my contractions yesterday. The baby dropped when I was 7 months and I had lost my mucus plug 3 weeks ago.. How long can this process of being 1 cm go? Anyone have and suggestions for me?

Hi Melissa . I've been 1 cm dilated for a month now. I've had BH contractions for months. I started having them very early on.. I do have more contractions now that I'm in my 39th week but they dont seem to have helped out w/ the dilation. I was having a drink w/ a friend today and she told me she was 0 cm dilated till 5 hrs before birth. She dilated fully in a couple hours!! lucky her!!

Apparently you can stay dialated for a centimeter for a long time, from what I've heard everyone is different. You can go two weeks overdue and have to be induced especially if its your first baby. My little one dropped at 33 weeks, I lost my mucus plug at 36 weeks and I was one cm dialated 50% effaced until my 39+5 appt on Tuesday when I graduated to 2 cm and 80% effaced. Today is my due date. I'm going to go walk around and see if I can keep my contractions up and running, they always start but then stop. Pretty aggravating, considering it would be really nice to have him tonight so all the family could make it to see him this weekend. Good luck!! =)

Hi Melissa. I had to go to the hospital due to a small scare we had at 30 weeks. When the nurse checked me then I was at 1 cm. I was concerned that it was too early to have started dialating and she said that many women can walk around for a couple months at 1 cm and not even know. I'm now 36 weeks and still have no sign that I will deliver any time soon. However, if you're already feeling true contractions, I doubt you have much time left.
