I M So Scared

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and yesterday I went for my doctors appointment. He said I had really high blood sugar. Now he's sending me for another test to see if I have diabetes. I'm so scared. Has anyone else had high blood sugar?

Deanna, 33 week here... Yes. This exact thing happened to me. The funny thing is that I'm actually hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) when I am not pregnant. But I found out that many hypoglycemics "fail" the first test but then pa__s the second. That is, in the end, what happened with me... and hopefully it will be true in your case as well. (Also if you ate even the slightest amount of sugar the day of your test it can mess up the results). Like you I was very scared... and I was absolutely POSITIVE I was going to "fail" the second test... especially since I actually pa__sed out in the chair as they were drawing blood and I had to lie down in the lab for the next three hours! (You have to fast the night before and then they give you a very high concentrate of their sugar drink, and then they draw blood on the hour for three hours. If you can it is a good idea to have someone drive you home). But if you do turn out to test positive for gestational diabetes with the second test what they will do is send you to a nutritionist to put you on a strict diet. It is rare that you have to go as far as take insulin shots, but even if you do it will only be until the pregnancy is over. But gestational diabetes fetuses are bigger than normal (as mine has always been, another reason I was sure I had it), so they will be watching you closely for preterm labor conditions. Also the doctor will probably see you every week. I hope it turns out negative. Good luck!
