Labor And Driving

Just in case I start labor today (yeah, right). Can I still drive? I am now at about 12 miles from home.

i guess it depends how strong your contractions are, but potentially pretty dangerous if a sudden painfull one takes away your concentration

Yikes! that is good to know ... thanks.

My friend went into labour that was progressing quickly and her boyfriend couldn't drive her car (a standard) so she had to drive herself to the hospital! She made it though.

It depends on your pain threshold. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain and I really would have no other choice but to drive to the hospital if I go into labor during the week. By the time I'd have family or friends come and pick me up and then drive me to the hospital it would at least take an hour. Since it doesn't seem that long of drive, Mary you could always call a cab. Hope it helps!!

Pain threshold doesn't matter, you can't predict how labor will be. It could be hard and fast, even if it's not, it can change in the blink of an eye. Your water could break, baby could be crowning. There's no way to know what to expect, it's too risky. You're at risk, baby's at risk and other drivers are at risk. I would call an ambulance.

I am home now and contractions did not start and I am glad they did not. I really did not want to drive otherwise. i was at work.
