Ladies On Bedrest Any Advice

Gretta - February 10

I am going on 3 weeks of bedrest for blood pressure (so I actually feel good - not sick) and yesterday and today it is really wearing on my nerves. How much TV can one watch really? I know people are telling me to take up knitting and to read ect. But lets face it thats not really going to help. I feel trapped in my house. My husband is doing the best he can but as my only social outlet its wearing on him too. How did/are you other girls keep your spirits up? I am 34 weeks and if I go another month like this I fear I will get really depressed or something.

Hi Gretta, Has the doctor suggested inducing you early due to your blood pressure. With my previous son I was induced at 34 weeks due to needing my gallbladder removed. Your right about only so much tv, these days I just keep in on for back ground noise. We have a one year old and a 14 year old so sometimes bed rest has to be put on hold as it is next to impossible to stay still. See if you doctor will allow you 15 minutes a day where you could go for a walk or even a car ride to get out of the house. With my first that was what I was allowed to do. Can you get you husband to get you some material so you can start working on you baby book? Chatting here can also help you get through your day. It has been a life saver for me. If it helps the first few weeks are the hardest, after it seems to fall into a bit of a routine.

Thanks for writing. The doctor did say the won't likely let me go full term but I am just 34 weeks now so I think they will at least take me to 37. I don't have any protien in my urine or other signs of pre-eclampsia yet so I think they are just being really cautious. I had to quit work early which was hard too. My bp was totally normal at my last appt but they said I still have to stay on full bed rest. She even told me no laundry or cleaning. Anyhow since I am so miserable I am making my husband take me to lunch today. I have to get out of my house :) How far along are you now? So this is your 3rd do you know what you are having? I am having a little girl and she is my first. Very excited about the baby but its been a difficult pregnancy.

Lovedblessings - February 10

Congratulations on your first little girl. We are having a boy.. That makes three of a kind for me. Sorry your having a difficult pregancy, I know how tough that can be. Wtih this pregnacy I was hoping to go into labour natarually since my other two were induced however not at 25 weeks. Leaving work is really hard, just speaking with another adult throughout the day is such a great thing. Like yourself no laundry or cleaning allowed here, although I feel the nesting desire coming on and want to clean the whole house. Have a great lunch with your husband, I just went out for my b-day on Monday and really loved being out of the house. This is week number 32 almost 33 for me. The count down is on just really slow. Do you have any names picked out for your daughter?

Gretta - February 10

Aww three boys! That great what are your sons named now and do you have a name picked out for this little one? We are mulling around Samantha (Sam) and Chloe. I think we will decide once we see her. So are you on bed rest for your low blood pressure? I had a great lunch and than we went to the bookstore. I feel better now just getting out for a little bit. Sometimes the doctors do know best but for mental health I just needed to get out. Even though its freezing cold here. I am outside of Chicago.

Hi Gretta, Well, I have two boys with one on the way. My boys names are Donavan and Spencer. The names we are working through are Jax, Jack, Warren and Sawyer. Any suggestions..? I love both the names you have picked out for your daughter, Chloe is very pretty! Like yourself we are waiting to see him. I'm off on bedrest due to going into labour at 25 weeks, which was really scary. The chances of survial aren't very good at all. Time is going so slowly however I know how important each day is towards survival. You outting sounds like it did you a world of good. It's funny how we take small things forgranted until they are no longer available for us. I am from Niagara Falls, Canada.. very cold here too!

Gretta - February 10

Oh my - That must have been really scary. I am so glad they were able to stop your labor. My doctor told me this week that now at 34 weeks they won't stop labor if I happen to go into it so thats a milestone. I love your boys names! Spencer is so cute and Donovan too!! You know from your list I kind of really like Warren - its different. Sawyer and Jack are really good too. My husband is from Scotland originally. We got married over there last February - so our one year anniversary is coming up. If we were having a boy we would have named him Euan - pronounounced You-in - its a real traditional scottish name. For a girl I really loved the name Finn since before I met him but guess what? Hiis best friend's name is Finlay and my husband didn't want everyone to think we were naming our daughter after him LOL so after much debate Chloe and Sam are all we can agree on. So you little one is just a year? You must be exhausted :) You must be excited to have your little guy and get off bedrest. I guess I have no right to complain being its only been a few weeks but it is amazing how much you do take for granted like you said. When I was working I wished I could lay around in bed all day and now that I am ordered to do so I so want the opposite. You are also right. This website has been really good for me. I usually chat with the ladies on the March 22 thread and for all of our pregnancies its been really great.

34 Weeks is the milestone I am trying to hit, my last son was born at that gestation. He struggled breathing for about an hour but then was able to breathe on his own. The shots to mature the babies lungs has already been given so hopefully he won't have a problem. WOw a wedding in Scottland would of been beautiful. I am originally from England and have traveled to Scottland a fare amount. Although it has been a number of years since I have been back. Your right I am very excited to have this little boy, I just want him to wait a couple more weeks. Are you getting nervous about the birth? Even with this being number 3 I still feel a little uneasy. Just can't wait for that beautiful moment when I hold him in my arms for the first time. My babies hospital bag is back I'm still working on mine. Here the hospital no longer supplies any of your pads or diapers and baby needs so you have to make sure you bring your own. They do supply formula if you plan to use it. The website is wonderful, everyone is a similar situation. It's great to be in the home stretch although is does feel like its dragging. Do you have most of your supplies for the baby? Crib, etc The only thing I need to buy will wait until the baby is about three months. I love to run and will need to buy a double stroller to get back into shap! For the first little while I will walk and carry the baby. I'm sure we will both feel so much better when we are up and around again. Just think, next time you we be showing off your beautiful daughter. Now that's something worth waiting for!!!

We have the baby's room all done. We have a small house that was built in 1926 so her bedroom is tiny but so is she so it won't matter LOL. We bought a crib and a long dresser and a tall dresser in pine and we painted the room half lavendar and half yellow with a cla__sic pooh border. I love it. We started buying everything once we found out we were pregnant to carry the cost over time since we knew I would be leaving work for about a year. From what I read on here Canada has a nice maternity policy which the states does not so it was either me quit or put the baby in day care at 10 weeks. I still have to do the washing of all her clothes. I am the opposite. I have my bag packed but can't decide what to bring for her to wear home. The hospital supplies everything and they built a whole new mother baby ward with private rooms and 24 hour room service! I am excited to have food on call :). So you are from England originally how long have you been in Canada? Is your husband Candian?

Lovedblessings - February 11

Gretta, your daughter's room sounds beautiful! I love pine and older houses they have so much more character. My sister's house is about the same age as yours, it's all stone with a great big front porch. We do have a great policy in Canada. This has only been in place for a few years, with my first I only had three months leave. 10 weeks would be so hard to leave your little girl, I understand why you would like the whole year off. That first year is so precious I would hate to miss it! Deciding what your daughter will where is a tough one. Bring a few outfits that way you will have more than one to choose from. Also in my experience it's great to have at least one premiere outfit since they don't seem to fit into the new born outfits for a couple of weeks. Just a thought.. my heaviest baby weight 7 pounds at birth. He was six weeks early, can you imagine if he was full term... OUCH!!! That's wonderful the hospital supplies everything, I love the thought of 24 hr service. With both kids I was starving after I gave birth. Even hospital food tasted great! Please tell me your food tastes bad too.? there is nothing worse than hospital food. We have a Tim Horton’s across from our hospital which my DH brings in with any of my hospital visits. Thank goodness!!! I have been in Canada for 15 years.. my partner was born and raised here! Although he has family in England also.

Hello ladies, sorry to hear that you are on bed rest. I was with my daughter, the boredom was awful. I really go into reading long novels and having friends over to talk to. Human interaction helped alot! Gretta i hope your blood pressure gets better!! Lovedblessings I am 31 weeks tommorrow and i also went into preterm labor this time. I was 20 weeks and hospitalized. they were able to stop my contractions also. I wasnt put on bed rest though and i havent had a problem with contractions since. With my daughter i had placenta abruption and they honestly didnt beleive i would carry her to term, but i now have a happy little 3 year old. So good luck ladies!!

Lovedblessings - February 11

Kristin11 How did you get out of bedrest? I am 2 cm dialated, were you dilated when you left the hospital? The doctor explained that if my cervix was less than 4 cm I would be in hospital until the baby was born.

Gavinsmom - February 12

Hey Gretta, my neighbor! How long did the doc say you have to be on bedrest? At least you probably haven' t wanted to go out anyway b/c of this freezing cold weather we've had! I had my little boy on Jan 25th! He is SO perfect! Do you have myspace? I have some pictures of him on there, so check it out (you will need to add me)! myspace/mybabygavin Well, I hope you are off bedrest soon! TTYL! :)

Gretta - February 12

Hi Gavinsmom!! How are you doing with your little one? Did your C-section go okay? I know you were worried. I read your birth storty but is your recovery going well? The doctor said I have to be on bedrest until I deliver. UGH! My due date is 5 weeks away but they said they most likely won't let me go to term but haven't said what that means. It has been so freezing here so its not like I do want to go out but its hard being home from work with nothing to do!! I am not used to it. Hi Kristen - How are you holding up?

Gretta - February 12

Gavinsmom - I just sent you a myspace request. :)

Gretta - February 12

Aww gavin is so cute and tiny!!! That helps make me realize what i am waiting for!! Lovedblessing how are you feeling today? How is your baby boy doing?

Kristin11 - February 13

Lovedblessings they were able to stop the contractions and they let me go back to life as usual, they never even checked to see if i was dialted or anything. Kind of wierd huh? Gavins mom congrats on your new little boy!! Gretta i am doing well, except my poor 3 year old has been so sick for like 3 weeks now. I am so ready for her to feel better. I know it is hard being cooped up, but think of it this way when else in your life will you be able to just sit back and relax.
