i am 39 weeks pg and terrified about going to 42 weeks not to mention fed up of being pregnant! just wondering, how likely is it that my doctor will respect my wish of being induced at 40 weeks?

I think it depends on your doctor- but the one guiding rule you'd hope all doctors would follow is that they look at the risk of induction vs. the benefit- so if your baby is getting really big, or you have a health concern, it would be to both of your benefit to induce you. However, if there's no reason to induce, the doctor will likely not do it due to the potential risks involved. Just my theory, though... try talking to your doctor at your next appt and see what his/her stance on the matter might be.

My doctors said it all depends on your cervix. So, if you're 40 weeks and dilated some and effaced then my doctors would say OK, let's induce, but if you're 40 weeks and the cervix is closed, then they'd choose not to induce you based on the fact that the likelihood of needing a c-section would increase if you're cervix isn't "ripe" before inducing. Are you dilated at all yet?
