Little Fetal Movement At 34 Weeks

I am 34 weeks in my first pregnancy and in the last two days I have only felt my little girl move a handful of times. This has me very concerned. Is this normal? I know their movements slow down in the last month but I still have 6 weeks to go. I have had regular sonograms because there is an amniotic band present inside the sac. My last sonogram showed that the band was starting to compress but I wasn't quite out of the woods yet. I called the doctor's office and they want to see me today and mentioned having a "stress" test done. Is this done in the doctor's office or at the hospital and what exactly is a "stress" test?

DOn't worry, your baby is getting bigger therefore there isn't enough room in the uterus which makes less movements. When you come to a point where you do not feel your baby move as often, then you do fetal counts. I don't know if your doctor has explained this to you or not but fetal counts are counting your baby's movements 10 times for half an hour. If you get 10 fetal kicks within an hour then your're fine. You try this method atleast 5 times everyday.

My doctor told me it's 10 times every TWO hours, so Christian, you might want to ask your doctor. While it's true that babies slow a lot in the final weeks, mine had slowed significantly and it turned out it was due to extremely low amniotic fluid. I now get daily sonograms and stress tests at the hospital. A stress test can usually be done in a hospital OR at your doctor's office. They'll strap two small boxes around your waist. One will monitor your baby's hearbeat and the other will monitor your contractions (if you have any). They usually have you sit there for 20 to 30 minutes, and you don't even need to be undressed. It's very "low stress", despite being a stress test (ha ha). Good luck!

As you can see Christian, every doctor has their own method on how to do fetal counts, example from Tillie's post.

yeah, my doctor said to count the movements, if less than 4 in 30 min, drink something nutritiouse and cold, then continue to count, if there are less than 10 in 2 hours to call the doc.
