I don't live in the best of neighborhoods, but it's never been HORRIBLE. Today I found out that someone pulled a gun on someone else right in front of the high school which is less than a mile from my house, and things are changing very rapidly. I cannot afford to move out at this point, so what do I do for safety? It scares me pretty bad.

Who do you live with, by yourself, with relatives, with bf? Maybe look into another relative's house to stay at while you save up for your own place.

If you can not afford to move, use common sense. Don't walk in the dark, BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. Stay on the cell phone with someone when you go outside. Odds are it will not be a pregnant woman that someone would target. I had an unfortunant event happen to me at my condo recently and hopefully this isn't to much info. I live in a decent neighborhood and the condos are really secluded but someone had this guy visiting and sleeping/living in his truck. It was en older guy and a nice truck. I was walking my dog early in the morning adn long story short...I saw the guy masterbating!!!! I was so scared and tramatized. Now he has been asked not to come back by the police and is long gone however, the fear has not left me. I can barely walk my dog in the dark now. My husband usually takes him but when I have to I take mace with me. But I do not know how safe that is while pregnant, in case it gets on you....okay I am going to look that up now! Good luck!

I live with my paretns and none of my relatives have the space and most of them are in their 80s so I don't want to impose. I'm more worried about my baby coming into this, because there are also gangs in my neighborhood but I've never heard of guns being pulled until today, and a lot of bad stuff has been going on at the high school near me.

isn't it sad what this world is coming to? Gangs, guns, rape, murder....I live in a fairly safe city and there are still situations that happen once in a while that freak me out. Like lisareneee said, just be aware of your surroundings and use your best judgement when it comes to raising your kids. The good thing is that it sounds like it is not an everyday occurance. If more bad things start to occur, maybe your parents will consider moving to a better neighborhood.

Always be aware of your surroundings, have your cell phone ready at all times, but don't act distracted...TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS...DON'T accept help from anyone you don't know...Pregnant women are obviously vunerable, and criminals know that, be prepared by not walking around on the streets. Also BUY AND READ "The Gift of Fear" Gavin DeBecker, it's cheap and you can get it online...I majored in Criminal Justice college...Now is the time to use friends and family and have them come over and walk w/ u to the store etc...

Thanks to you all, I don;t walk much, from being on bed rest so long im horribly out of shape haha. Anyways This has never been a great place to live, but luckily most of the people who do the bad things, with some exceptions I know. So I'd have to contact them to know what was going on really. Anyways I had just found out about that when I posted it and it had really stressed me.

It doesnt amtter where you live, There has been a string of Major drug busts in and around Atlanta georgia ( where I live). We live in a very nice neighborhood and when I woke up at 7:30 AM the other day there right across from my house is one of those busts! GREAT!!!!! Anyways , I would suggest keeping your cell phone with you at all times and preprogram 911 so all you have to hit is one 1 and send. Also, try to go places in pairs. Most attacks on people are when they are alone. Dont be too proud to ask for help espically when this little one comes..good luck to you!

Get a big dog. I have a Rottweiler and a Pit Bull. Absolutely no one messes with me :)

Great Danes are good too! I have two and people just bacl away from them b/c of their size...One weighs about 120 lbs and the other 180 and still growing... Theryre great with kids and protective of theor families. They are also inside dogs, they arent meant for outside enviroments except for walks ect... If you go to petfinder.com you can adopt one or any breed for that matter...Getting a big dog is a great idea
