Overdue And Nervous

I'm a week overdue and my doctor and I are going to discuss getting induced tomorrow. I'm a first time mom and I'm a lttle nervous about this. What exactly do they do and does it hurt?

They usually use Pitocin to help get contractions started. The actual Pitocin doesn't hurt, but the contractions do. But that doesn't really matter because natural or induced, contractions hurt anyway. Don't make yourself nervous. You'll be fine. Try to relax and maybe you'll luck out and go into labor before you even have to get induced. Good luck!

Sometimes they put a gel to soften your cervix the day before. They will put an IV of pitocin to start contractions. They put a belt around you to monitor the contractions and baby's heart rate. They do that usually whether they induce or not. My hospital offers an epi right away if you want. Anyway, for some it's not a big deal and for others, like me, the contractions are strong and close together. I opted for the epi after it got quit painful and was glad I did. Most of the time it's pretty fast. Occasionally it takes a while. Other than the contractions being more intense, it was really no different for me than regular labor. I wish you well!
