Preterm Labour

I'm 33 weeks and tomorrow I turn 34 weeks. I was admitted to the hospital over the weekend with preterm labour. They seem to have subsided but I am on bed rest. Anyone else out there with similar stories?

HI LInda, I am sorry that I don't have a similar story but I was wondering what one of the first signs were that you were in labor? Follow the doctor's orders....everything will be alright. You're in my prayers.

I was in the hospital overnight for preterm labor at 34 weeks. They tried injections of terb to stop the labor, but it didn't work. Procardia worked and I was sent home with a prescription and on bed rest. I will be 36 weeks tomorrow and I should be able to stop the medication and return to normal activity. I have a two year old, so bed rest has kind of been a joke. I've just been trying not to stand for long periods of time and not to pick up anything heavy. So far so good. Can't wait for tomorrow. Hang in there and it'll all be over soon. The good news is, you've reached a milestone. At 34 weeks, the baby has a great chance of being born with no long term effects.

Jenny, I had the same problem at around 33 weeks with my first baby, and was on pelvic rest for 4 weeks. It was not so bad, as long as i had crossword puzzles and stuff to keep me busy. I was in the hospital last weekend with contractions at 24 weeks with the twins I am carrying now, but they did not put me on bedrest this time. I guess I just got dehydrated and was not really in labor. Taylor, the first signs for me were contractions that did not hurt, just kindof a tightening in my stomach.

Taylor, the first signs of labour was tightening of the uterus. When it didn't go away, I knew something was wrong. I went to the hospital where they did testing and admitted me for pre-term labour. However, this was last weekend. Since then I've been to see my doctor and she now says that she doesn't believe I was in true, true labour because I wasn't dialating past 1 cm and an IV of bolus (saline solution) seemed to do the trick. So, they were just false labour but scary nonetheless.

went for 32 week check up and found i was 2 cm dilated and having contractions every 7 minutes. i only felt tightening in my upper stomach area. i was admitted for 1 night and give a series of 2 steroid shots to speed up the development of the lungs. i was also given breatine (an asthma medication that relaxes the uterus) every four hours. i was put on strict bedrest for two weeks and breathine every 6 hours. I went for 34 week check and i am still 2 cm dilated but my contractions have slowed down and they are not consistant. I am still on bedrest. I hoping I can hold off at least two more weeks so he will come home with me. good luck

35 weeks pregnant and having sharp pains shooting through my pelvic area, are the braxton hicks or contractions?

With my first pregnancy I went in for my strepB swab at 34 weeks and that night my water broke. No contractions but had to stay in hospital for fear of infection. They told me if they could keep me in for 2 weeks they would. Silly nurses kept asking "are you feeling contractions?" and after the 2nd day I was like "i don't think so but the front of my thighs are really sore, like I'm getting my period" "no no that's not labour"... silly nurses!! Finely asked Dr to check me and I was 3 cm dialated. Never did go into my stomache or back untill they put me on the drip to induce. The demeral (sp?) put me to sleep and slowed the contractions right down at first. It wasn't untill they turned up the drip twice that it _really_ started hurting.

went in for 36 week check and was still only 2 cm dilated after bedrest and breathine. he took me off the medication and said i could do a limited number of things. that was on wednesday. woke up friday morning with tightening about 9 min apart. i decided to go to the hospital prepared to come back home. they hooked me up to the monitor and they were actually 5 minutes apart. they checked me and i was 3 cm dilated. they hooked me up to iv and was checked about 2 more times and my water broke. i started feeling strong contractions at that point. had epidural 45 min later and then i was numb from the ribs down. had him about 6 hours later. very smooth labor. he was 6lbs and 7 oz. he had a little problem with his heart at first but now he is fine. we came home on monday and he is just fine. the nurse in the nursery said that is is amazing how the steroid injections work so well. there was another little boy that was born at 35 weeks and he was having problems with his lungs. i am very blessed to have such an adorable little boy. hope everything goes well for anyone reading this. i know it is a very stressfull time. good luck!!!!

I hit 34 weeks tomorrow and have pain down there (v____a). It hurts when I try to get up and stand and hurts when I spread my legs open. What could this be.
