Really Worried - March 2

I just went for my regular check up yesterday, i'm 34.2wks. When my dr. measured my stomach it was only 31cm, the thing is 2 weeks before this when i was only 32 wks pregnant, i was measuring 33 weeks. Why would there be a difference? He didn't say much, just ordered another u/s. Should i be worried?

you uterus "should" measure 1 cm for every week along you are. ie: 32 weeks= 32 cm. now that can change according to what position your baby is in. if the baby is stretching when they measure, you may measure big. if the baby is all balled up when they meausre, you'll measure small. it's nowhere near an exact science. don't worry about it. the doc is just ordering another ultrasound to be on the safe side.

Your baby's not shrinking.

I was measuring big at one point and I went for an ultrasound (thinking oh my gosh I am having a huge baby!) and everything was just fine. The baby was actually a little on the smaller side and my fluid was perfect. The ultrasound tech said it could be because of the way the baby was positioned. Try not to worry to much and relax.

its just a measuring tape they throw over your belly from one approximate point to another approximate point. I wouldn't put too much stock into it, especially if your doc isn't worried. And don't forget - even the u/s weight estimate can be off by a lot. I think the best measurements of the baby's health are heartbeat and movement, both of which you can keep a close eye on if you're worried.
