hey im about 34 weeks and i was wondering about that dark line that goes from your belly button down to your pubic bone. See i also have that line from the belly button going up to almost my breast bone, is that normal? And will this line go away completely after birth, and if so how long after birth?

It's called Linea Nigrea...it is caused by hormonal changes and should go away after the baby is born, although it may takes several months for it to disappear. I have it too. It's funny looking but normal. :)

i had it with my first pregnancy but not this one, Ive been told it means this one is a girl. Anyone agree?

well iam 31 weeks and have the same thing i am having a boy-so it doesnt mean its a girl-nice guess though:)

There is a myth associated with linea nigra. if the linea nigra runs to the naval, it's a girl, and if it goes all the way up to the xyphoid, it's a boy.

Umm..i have it and its only belly button doown....and im having a baby boy...my friend has it going from belly button down all the way up to her breast and shes having a baby girl...ANYWAY, my point is, girl or boy, HAS NOTHING to do with your LINEA NEGRA....so dont believe everything you see until you see the confirmed thruth in an ultrasound.

Ive got it from belly button down and im having a girl...i didnt know it could run up any further than your belly button

Aparently the dark line is due to the separation of the muscles down ya stomach... i havnt ever heard the "it could be a girl" myth. However i do know that some women get a line and others don't! I suppose it all depends on how ya body works and stretches! x

Hey L. I am having a girl and it is my first pregnancy and I have the line down my belly from my breast bone all the way down to my pubic bone. Who knows?

Its a girl! Have had the line from breast bone all the way down to pubic bone since 12 weeks.

I am 38 weeks and this is my third pregnancy...hate to break your hearts but that brown line does not indicate a girl...my first two pregnancies I carried boys and had that line all the way from my breast bone to my pubic bone...I do not know what I'm carrying now but I have that line again. This line is called Linea Nigrea it is cause by hormonal changes and the stretching of your muscle...do not worry it does go away after pregnancy! :)
