I keep hearing conflicting things about what hurts worse during delivery. (tearing or having an incisison (episiodomy) Spelling? What everyone elses take?

I've been reading a lot and according to some of the Bradley childbirth people, they've never seen a bad tear without an episiotomy. I had an episiotomy and fortunately didn't have too much pain or trouble afterwards but some women have a lot of pain and complications from them, I guess. The trouble is convincing a dr you don't need one - Most of them do it routinely just because it's always done.

this is my third child and I had both. They both hurt but not so bad as the labor.

Tears tend to heal better than being cut, as they have to cut through layers of muscle as well
