What Is Better Effacement Or Dilation

Does anyone know what is better?? I am 1 cm and 70% effaced and I was just curious if either meant something more than the other.

Well... - November 24

I think the effacement refers to the softening of the cervix. Dialation refers to the opening of the v____al ca___l... I believe you need to be 10cm dialated to commence labor... but effacement being so high must mean labor is imminent?? Good luck!

Neither dilation or effacement is a true indicator of when you will go into labor. I myself am 90% effaced and 2cm. I could very well go to my due date which is 2 weeks away.

As of this past Weds., I was 3cm and 80% effaced (due on 11/28). A week before that, I was at 2cm and 50%. I think the baby comes when the baby wants to.

Kristin- How far along are you? I am between 60%-70% effaced but not dialated. I still have 6 wks to go. Ive been having contractions and have had labor stopped three times now.

I am 38 weeks and 3 days. I had to have my labor stopped too at 32 weeks. But they never told me about my effacement then. They just told me I wasn't dilated.
