Whole Body Itching

It seems lately that my whole body has been itchy. At first I thought it was dry skin but I lather lotion on everyday and it continues to itch. I know that itching on the tummy means that the skin is stretching but I am itching on my arms, legs and tummy. It is driving me crazy! Anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?

YESSSSSS! i am going thru that right now and have been for the past week! i thought it was my detergent, but i switched and still itch! i am so itchy that in the shower i take that apricot scrub stuff (walmart's equate brand which is really coarse) and rub it all over my arms and shoulders! i can't make it stop - so if you find out anyway to lessen it let me know.

I have found that Aveeno lotion really helps. It has oatmeal in it which is really soothing to the skin. (I appy 2x's a day) I usually get the "itch" at night and scratch so hard it makes welts all over my body. Even broken the skin in some areas. I have even gone so far as to get the benedryl gel out and slather myself in it. (I smell so good after that.. haha j/k) That really helped me as well. And doc said it was perfectly fine to use. One last thing he said is dont take long hot showers, it really dries your skin out. Good luck!

I have had a problem with itching on and off my whole pregnancy, My dr. had my liver tested twice b/c there is a condition in pregnancy where the liver does not process some enyzme. My entire body would itch even the bottoms of my feet and the palms of my hands, places where dry skin or hives usually do not effect. My liver tested fine both times so we chalked it up to a hormone thing. There is another condition called PUPs and I am not too sure of the cause of it but I do know that is a physical rash that is red and bumpy and it does not usually come and go like what I had. Good luck and I found that gold bond lotion worked very well for me, although it smells terrible.

to Kaeli - so is it just from dry skin then?

I know my itching isn't from dry skin. I thought it was at first but I use too much lotion for it to be from dry skin. I may try the oatmeal lotion. I have thought about taking oatmeal baths. I have heard that is good for itchy skin.

To Kate - If you dont have the bumps that Elizabeth described that is usually what it is. With the cold weather we all have our heaters on and it dries our skin out so bad. And also the long hot showers and baths that we love so much? Yep, dries our skin out too. Aveeno has been my savior!! Aveeno also makes bath soap and stuff to put in a tub if you want to take a bath. Its so soothing. My doc also told me that our skin releases histamines (sp?) that is sort of the same thing that happens when our nose is itchy with allergies. When we get too hot that starts to happen and the itching starts. Hope this helps! Here is a good article that I found about itchy skin, http://www.babyconnection.com/pregnancy/prenatphys/9450 just be sure to remove the dashes to get the link to work. Good luck!!
