ARRRR Terrifying Tantrum After A Bad Fall I M Scared

After my son tripped and fell on the stairs (carpeted) he appeared physically ok but went into the tantrum of all tantrums. He screamed like he was being stabbed for more than 20 minutes and nothing we did would snap him out of it. His eyes were even glazed over. He has started having regular tantrums but never anything like this. He's ok now but the tantrum was so frightening I wasn't sure if I should take him to the doctor. Has anyone else seen this kind of over the top behaviour? He's 19 months.

Hey there, sorry you are so stressed i know how you feel cos my 16 month old daughter had a big fall a few weeks ago and i freaked out cos she had a huge lump and i teeny bit of a blood nose, i rang the hospital and they said if she had any of the following to take her in right away - Clear fluid running from ears or nose, (which is stupid cos of course they have snot everywhere when they cry so who can tell?), blood nose or ears, lack of direction or wobbly on feet, loss of conciousness, wont stop crying, complains of head and neck pain, if they are sleeping after look for twitching of limbs, pupils of unequal size, seizure or vomiting. My daughter turned out to be fine but i think i took 10 years off my life worrying about her..... Im sure your son is fine but its better to ease your mind and take him to get checked if your worried. Maybe he just had a tantrum cos it really really hurt :)

Yes, I've seen that - either fear or being p**d off causes that, more than pain. My son did the over-the-top one when a june bug buzzed into him when he was in bed at night. I've never seen anything like that. He was terrified of buzzing sounds for the rest of the summer, and still does not like the dark.
