I was just wondering when you can start pulling the foreskin back to clean? My son is 18 months and have never done it yet.

If you haven't been doing it up to this point, you need to start today. It is impotrant to keep his p___s clean, just like any other body part.

DON'T EVER FORCIBLY RETRACT THE FORESKIN. The ONLY person who should EVER retract it is the owner of the p___s, ie, your son. Clean it just like you would a finger. The foreskin is fused to the glans just like a fingernail is fused to the finger, and ripping it back would be just as painful and have the same risk of introducing foreign bacteria, etc, and causing infection. You don't need to retract it, EVER, it will retract on its own, sometime between the age of 3 and puberty.

yeah, my son is 16 months and I don't bother messing with his pee-pee ! It barely retracts anyway!

The dr just told me you gently pull it back if you see smegma, but only to the point that it is NOT retracted. If you force it all the way you can do permanent damage. It eventually does on its own.

We were told to leave DS's alone too.... that you cause MORE problems when you forcibly retract it. mjvdec01 -- did your doc tell you to do that?

No, I was just wondering. My husband seems to think we should be pulling it back to clean. I thought I read somewhere not too until their older.
