Over night it seems that my darling little 16 month old started hitting. I blame myself for spanking her hand or leg when she did something wrong. I stopped spanking her and now she is full force with it. Anytime she doesn't get her way she just throws those arms around. I feel out of control with her when she does this. I have tried the time out but I don't think she grasps the concept. I am just so frustrated and would any feedback.

My son also went from my darling son to a hitting, pinching child overnight also. He started at age 18 months. We don't hit or anything like that so this was so out of the ordinary I didn't know what to do. I explained it like aliens came down and exchanged my child with another. I seems like the terrible twos are not just the two's. It seems to start around 18 months and lasts until about 3. I don't think hitting her hands started it. It is just something some children go through. I have 6 kids and my first 3 I never had any problems. I used to think what is so terrible about the age of 2. Now I know. At the age of 16 months there is really nothing you can do but tell her that it is not nice. Dicipline at that age doesn't work. Time out doesn't work. I don't think they really know what they are doing until about 2 or 2 1/2. My son was a late talker so maybe that had something to do with it. Being patient (which is really hard) and waitingit out is the key I think. My son is now 3 1/2 and the hitting and pinching are gone. Hope this helps. Good luck.
