Night Coughing

My 18 mo old dd has been fine during the day but at night (while sleeping)has a horrible sounding cough. It sounds like she's coughing her lungs out. Anyone else go through this or know of any reasons she might cough at night only?

it could be her mollers making her cough at night, try using the humidifier with 5 drops of eucalyptus oil inside.

My son does this too, sometimes. It's usually after he's had a cold and is not acting sick at all anymore during the day but I guess fluid collects at night and he coughs,A LOT. Also, we got an air ionizer and if he seems to be coughing a lot for no reason (even with no recent cold) we'll put the ionizer on.It's actually running most of the time. One other thing we noticed is that if it gets really cold and we need to keep the heater on, it can make him cough too because he's getting a dry throat so we'll run the humidifier like cubbie said.

thanks - I'll have to try keeping her room warmer and using a humidifier....see if it makes a difference. It really could be her teeth as I think she's working on another molar. We'll see!

my son does this too.. but he was born with tracheomalacia.. and now they think its an asthma or allergies.. i would a least mention this to your ped. If it last for more then 3 months constant they need to get tested.. what i did was put pillows under the mattress so that its leveled and that seems to have calmed his coughing a little bit
