Hello! I have been a member of Pregnancy-Info since I was pregnant with my youngest son.....this sight helped me get through a lot! I know this is thread for infants but I don't know where else to turn for this.....I have 3 kids....a 6 yr old girl, 4 yr old girl and almost 2 yr old boy. My 6 yr old is in first grade and I am dealing with stuff that I am so not ready for yet. I just want to know if what I am going through with my daughter is normal and how I should handle it. I notice that she talks about boyfriends already...which I know is pretty normal....but I do feel she may be a little more into boys than I would like. How do I talk to her about boys....I don't want to be overly strict and tell her that she shouldn't have "boy" friends but I want to make sure that she knows that they should just be friends.....also I caught her touching herself down there......I've been told its also normal, but I just really don't want to be dealing with that right now. The advice that I have gotten is to not make her think that it is I told her that what she is doing is "Normal" but that it is private. I am just afraid of being overly strict or of telling her the wrong thing and making these situations worse! What do I do????!?!?! Is this normal? I don't want to talk to people around me about this because I don't want them to think that I am doing something wrong as a parent or that my daughter is "abnormal". We have a "normal" type of family. Me and my husband are together, everything is really stable....I really don't know why she is starting to act this way so early....Please help!

I think that's great how you handled the touching issue, telling her it's normal to do but private. I completely agree with that approach. And I do agree it's normal, at any age. As far as the boys, I don't know when it's typical for girls to start liking boys in that way, and maybe she's only talking about boyfriends because it's something she sees on TV, like she thinks she's supposed to have a boyfriend already. Maybe she's just curious about boys but not actually attracted to them. I would have a talk with her to find out what she's really thinking. And maybe a talk about good touches and bad touches would be in order too so she'll know if someone tries to take advantage of her curiosity. Good luck!
