Teaching Toddler To Use Spoon

Hi, my lo is 15 months and he wants to feed himself. He already eats finger foods on his own, but he will not let me feed him with a spoon b/c he wants to do it. But everytime I give him the spoon and try to guide him, it ends up on the floor or in his hair. I have tried given him a spoon while I feed him but that doesn't work either. Can anyone tell me any tricks or advice on how to teach him to use the spoon. I have no idea where to begin....lol. Please help me.

wellis - I can feel your frustration but unfortunately they have to learn by getting messy - they do sell some bent forks that make it easier for them - during the day my little ones eat not so messy foods and at dinner they can get hog wild since they head from the table to the bath - it's more work for you but they need the practice before they figure it out - I am with you sometimes it's hard to let kids be kids but necessary ...LOL good luck!

i know how you feel, my ds has used a spoon for months now but only for thick things like yougart. he does very well with it but he loves soup. We all know how watery soup is and he gets 98% of it on his shirt/bib! he always turns the spoon upside down and i can't get him to understand to keep it one way. SO i try to feed him his soup but he gets very upset!
