My dd is 2.5 and she will not slepp. Since Friday she will not take a nap. She is tired but just won't sleep. It is driving me nuts! I still have to hold her to go down for her nap. She falls asleep on me but as soon as I get upt o put her down she wakes up and won't go back down. I only hold her for a bout 10 to 15 minutes until I know shwe is asleep. What is the problem. Wil lshe ever nap again. When she does wake up I put her in her crib and let her cry for a while. After about 45 minutes I get her out and say fine don't take a nap! What is the problem!

Some kids grow out of their naps early on, my 4yr old stopped napping before his 2nd birthday! :-( It was a hard slog until bedtime some days but he just couldn't/wouldn't nap...

Sometimes my 2 year old won't take a nap if he's caught a short nap in the car on an outing. If it's getting late in the afternoon and we know he'll be a basket case by bedtime, we'll let him have a favorite toy or book in his crib (which is usually a no-no) and just let him have quiet time. Once in a while he actually falls asleep but even if not, it gives him (and me & daddy) quiet time too.

My daughter is just under 2 and a half. Just this week we took away naps because she wouldn't go down at bedtime. Turns out that taking away the naps was the key to our nightmare. I am 35 weeks pregnant and was hoping to be able to continue with naptime until the baby is born, but no such luck. Sometime between abe 2 and a half and age 4, kids grow out of needing a nap. That doesn't mean that they won't be a bit crabby, or sleepy for a bit, but if you do try to put them dowm they either resist, or they refuse at bedtime.

My mom always had my brother and I just lay down to rest with books and toys for a bit in the afternoon. I would always sleep (still do! LOL) and my brother would sometimes, it gave her a break and he had quiet time and prepared him for school, believe it or not. Worth a shot, and I'm sorry she has gone on strike and gotten rid of naptime.
