I would like to know how early an ultrasound can detect twins. Is 6 weeks (from LMP) too early? Does anyone have experience with this? Thank you!

I have seen many ladies on my mulitples boards that have found out at 4 and 5 weeks they were having twins. 6 weeks is still early to confirm for sure though. Most twins are found at 8 weeks or after. Good luck!

as early as 6 weeks, sometime not until 8 weeks.

if anyone is still reading this...why would the twins sometimes not show up until 8 weeks?

Potter, sometimes a quickie sono may miss twins because the sacs are exactly the same size and shape and shadow each other. OR the babies share the same sac and block each other. AGain it is uncommon for twins to be missed....95% of all twins are found in the 1st trimester.

My first ultrasound was at 7 weeks, both twins were visable, heartbeats, placentas, & water bags... all clear and visable. They will be able to see the gestational sacks if you have twins. If there is only one sack, they should be able to clearly how many fetuses are in it.

I am pg with triplets and found out 6 1/2 weeks, 3 sacs, three heartbeats and three yolks.
