Im just posting this question for a friend, she is 12 weeks and said the doctor heard 2 heartbeats. Now im not calling her a lier but im pretty sure at 12 weeks the heartbeats would be pretty faint to hear! and she said she didnt go for an ultrasound they just heard it.... when you find out your gonna have twins YOU NEED A U/S dont you???? and is 12 weeks too early to find out?

10-12 weeks is the time to start hearing the h/s on doppler. My OB wouldn't use a doppler with my twins because with all the pulses and echoes in there, she wanted to make sure she was getting both h/b's so she used the u/s machine. Chances are, that is what the doctor picked up as well, but there is always the slight chance of twins. Only an u/s can confirm if there are two babies. A doppler can't.

I found out at 8 weeks by u/s. I saw the heartbeats, so i would say at 12 weeks she can hear them for sure. I had a 2nd ultrasound at 12 weeks and saw my babies swimming around and heard the heartbeats.

When I was pg with my twins I found out by the doppler. They heard two hb's. So yes they can tell if it's twins by using a doppler. I didn't have an us until I was 20 wks.
