Twins But One Sac Is Much Smaller At 5 Weeks

I am five weeks pregnant and was experiencing some pain/cramps on my left side. My HCG levels are going up rapidly. My first two ultrasounds showed nothing in my uterus. My third ultrasound showed 2 sacs. One was much larger than the other and you could see the yolk sac in only one of them. I have been reading alot about the vanishing twin syndrom, or could it be that the other was conceived a few days/hours later and is just smaller? I have another ultrasound in one week, but want to know if anyone else has experienced this..thanks

I am going through a similar thing. I am at 6 weeks and have two gestational sacs. You can see the yolk sac in both of them, but only one has a heartbeat. The one measured 5.5 mm while the other was only 4.9. The doctor said I may have lost one, but he said it may also be because the one sac was too far from the probe. I'm going in next week to get a 7 week ultrasound. I talked to several people who had twins and said that sometimes it is hard to see the second one during an ultrasound. I would be glad to hear other people's experiences.

Update...I went back for another ultrasound and the other sac did not develope. I wish you the best of luck. Please let me know what happens!
