Severe Back Pain

I am 27 weeks along with my first pregnancy and my upper back (right between my shoulder blades) feels like it is going to crack in two! I sleep on my left side because that is what I have heard and read is best for the baby. Could this be causing my back pain? It is really bad! Could someone please give me some advice?

Yes it could be the postion your sleeping in. Lying on your left side is better for baby as it increases the blood supply but it isnt essential. Try sleeping in a different postion for a few nights to see if it helps, you need to be as relaxed as you can be and get as much sleep as you can now before the baby is born so dont feel bad about sleeping in a different position. It could also be indigestion (I sometimes get it in my back) any antacid which doesnt contain sodium is allowed, milk (especially full fat) could make it worse because it will make your stomach produce more acid to digest it. If youre in alot of pain you should speak to your doctor about it. Your posture could be suffering because of your pregnancy and could be causing the pain or it could be a pulled muscle, for these problems you will need to see a doctor for advice and decent pain relief. I hope you are feeling better soon.
