Swimming During Pregnancy

Hi. I am 11.5 weeks pregnant and I just went swimming (actually it was soaking in the water under the hot sun) for about a total of 4 hours with intervals. When I told my friend about it she said that I might have a desease from the pool or the baby might be affected. It got me so worried. Should I get worried about this?

If you're swimming in a chlorinated pool, there's nothing to worry about. I swam throughout my first pregnancy (live in south tx, so we can swim nearly year round). I never had any problems from swimming. I also took my daughter swimming when she was three months old. Swimming is good exercise, it's great for a sore back, and it's very relaxing. The only thing to worry about is protecting your skin from the sun, and making sure you drink some fluids while you're outside.
