Gestational Diabetes and Sugary Drinks
Drinking 5 or more sugar-sweetened drinks per week puts a women at higher risk for developing gestational diabetes when pregnant. When compared to women who drank less than one sugar drink per month, women who drank 5 or more per month were 22% more likely to develop gestational diabetes while pregnant. Doctors advise women to limit their sugar intake prior to becoming pregnant and while pregnant to avoid this form of diabetes.
