New Research On Obesity And Pregnancy
Posted on Sun Oct 25, 2009How Much Weight Should An Obese Woman Gain In Pregnancy?
A new study may advise obese pregnant women to gain little or no weight while pregnant since excess pregnancy weight can lead to preeclampsia or diabetes while pregnant or increase the need for birth via a c-section. This new government study has recruited 180 obese pregnant women and will divide the women into 2 groups. One group will receive individual counseling sessions on diet and exercise and the other group will receive only 2 such sessions but will join weekly counseling meetings on those topics. This is to test which method works better for these women to prevent weight gain while pregnant while still eating enough, getting enough nutrition, and not being left feeling hungry. The study will also examine the health benefits for these women and their babies by not gaining weight.
