My dog has always been, well, mine as we have been together for 11 years. The crazy thing is when I am pregnant he becomes very in my face. I can't turn around without him there. He has to be right outside the shower or at the bathroom door if I am in there, and he is twice as jealous. He and my two--year-old daughter are always pushing each other around to see who will be next to me or on my lap. Between the two of them, I spend a lot of time tripping because I cannot see them if they are right below me!

Well my cat was different. She usually would let me hold her for long periods of time, but after I became pregnant, she doesn't like me holding her. She avoids me a lot, and struggles with me when I try to hold her.

My cat has become more affectionate. He will always come and lay beside me for a cuddle if I lie down on the couch. Sometimes he'll lay on my abdomen, right over where the baby will be inside me and purr like mad. My dog is as affectionate as he always has been, but he tends to be more protective. If my husband isn't home, he stays close by my side, and if someone comes to the door he will stand in front of me and bark, and won't let me pass until I tell him it's alright!

Jesse and Leroy, my 3 three-year-old tabbies are competing for the role of "best lap cat." Even my brother's cat has been very affectionate by sitting on my lap when I visit. I often wonder what purring sounds like to the baby inside the womb?
