I need somebody's advice. I am almost 37 weeks along with my first baby. (I will be 37 weeks by this Saturday 29th of July) I have begun having contractions but I was told by the doctor that they are just Braxton Hicks contractions and nothing big yet. He also told me that my cervix is "not" ripened, I am "not" dialated, or efaced or membrane thining or anything. So, I'm 3 and a half weeks from my due date and my body is not yet ready to deliver. However my problem is this: My husband is in the military and he has been training in California now for 2 months and he just recieved orders to come home for 10 days to visit family one last time before they ship out. So his orders say that he will come home this Saturday (my 37th week) and leave by the next Saturday (my 38th week). And he wants to induce labor sometime between my 37th and 38 week, so that he'll be here for the baby's birth. Yet, since the doctor told me that I am not ready this increases my chance of infection to either the baby or me, longer labor, c-section, more pain, complications, ect. So I don't want to do it because I do not want to endanger my baby or myself. Yet, he wants me to no matter what. I feel that he does not care about the risks, but I do not want to upset him because I know how much this would mean to him if he were here to see the baby be born. In my opinon though, if when he comes home....if sex, lots of walking, ect. do not help bring on the labor naturally, then he just won't get to see his child be born. Because I don't want to take the chance of having a c-section just so he can see his child be born. Is this a wrong stance for me to take on this situation, or shall I just induce labor and take all the risks (considering how early I am and how the doctor already told me that my body is not ready)? Someone please reply.
