Hi heidistauff: That is a bunch of bull. I took Prometrium as a suppository and demanded that my nurse midwife re-test my progesterone after I'd been on the Prometrium for several days, to make sure the level was going up (it more than doubled after 5 doses, by the way). I had told my nurse midwife that I was going to take them as suppositories (he told me I could take them orally or vaginally), so he knew I was taking them vaginally. The "localized to the uterus" stuff is complete crap. It's getting into your blood stream whether you're swallowing it or inserting it into your vagina; your body is absorbing it one way or another. If your doctor won't do a second test of your progesterone (it's a simple blood test, for goodness sake!), find someone else who will -- or tell them that you'll pay out of pocket for it if insurance doesn't cover it (which is my hunch as to why they don't automatically do a f/u blood test for progesterone once you start on progesterone). My nurse midwife, who is otherwise very supportive and helpful, didn't offer the progesterone test. I had to demand it! I guess they figure if it's working, you'll stay pregnant and if it's not, you'll miscarry. Which is horrible logic to employ on any woman; you want to know if it's working and you want to know now! Don't be afraid to ask for the test; it's YOUR body and YOUR health. Good luck and let us know what happens!
