Hello everyone!! This is the first time I write in a forum so this is going to be a little long... Sorry :) My husband and I have been trying to have a baby since 1 year ago. Last August we got pregnant but I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks. The doctor ordered hcg and progesterone levels and the progesterone was extremely low. After waiting 3 months, we started to try again and got pregnant. This time I did the tests (hcg and progesterone) immediately after I found out at 3 1/2 weeks and both tests were ok. I took the tests again before having my first prenatal visit at 5 weeks and to my surprise, the progesterone had dropped from 26 to 14!!!!!!!! This decrease was most likely due to Luteal Phase Deficiency where the corpus luteum (which is what is left behind in the ovary after the egg is released during ovulation) is supposed to secrete the hormone progesterone to sustain the pregnancy until the 12th week when the placenta takes over. If there is a problem with the progesterone levels, the baby is not able to implant itself in the endometrium (which is the inside lining of the uterus) and thus a miscarriage occurs. If I had waited to do the tests next week, I would most likely have had another miscarriage and the diagnosis would have not been done. My doc started me on Prometrium 200mg orally daily for 1 week and will reevaluate the dosage after she sees my new labs next week. Even though we are very exited about the baby, we are still waiting to see if the Prometrium increases my progesterone levels. We have our fingers crossed..... I hope this information helps someone as this forum helped me see that I am not alone in this quest. Thank you!!!!
PS- This is my 3rd day on Prometrium and today I felt dizzy as well…
