I read that DHA is very important for brain development.Your body makes it from EFAs (seesntial fatty acids. EFAs are found in nutritious foods such as flax seeds, soy and canola oils, walnuts and pumpkin seeds. Less concentrated sources are green leafy vegetables, grains and spirulina. There are DHA supplements that can be helpful if you are pregnant or nursing. DHA is very concentrated in breastmilk, and research shows that the longer you breastfeed your baby, the less likely they are to develop ADD. So DHA is a very important nutrient for those of us that are pregnant or nursing. Corn, sunflower, and safflower oils can inhibit the amount of DHA your body can make. Switching to canola or soy oil for cooking is an easy fix. Then 1 tablespoon of flax oil a day is all you need to produce enough DHA for a healthy baby. I drizzle it on my oatmeal in the morning.
