Hey alicia, they used pitossin to induce labor on me but it is very stressful on your uturus and because I already had a previous C-section I had to have another...if you DO end up w/a C-section...the first time may be very scary and just the thought of it may give you the "UNCONTROLLABLE SHAKES" like it did to me...I didn't actually relax until I was already on the operating table strapped down so I couldn't move and they gave me laughing gas and oxygen JUST to calm me down, AND maybe a little because the epidural was wearing off by then because it took my body over an hour to go completely numb (was only supposed to take 15 mins) and they gave me morphine for that, too. I think if you wanted it, they would put you to sleep..I think the laughing gas has that effect anyway, if given in a large enough dose..they gave me just a little and it made me feel woozy, tired, and TOTALLY relaxed...then I heard the baby cry and WHOO! I started CRYING UNCONTROLLABLY! I WAS SOOO HAPPY! The gas later is terrible and the vicadin they give you for pain is a terrible constipator, so sneak some PRUNE JUICE in the hospital..you'll need the relief, and they won't give you what you really want...alot at once...until you've been there for 4 days..you have to talk directly to the doctor, by the way...nurses won't authorize anything, guess they just don't have that authority...my doc said, "sure, raid the hospital fridge for prune juice!" Of course my husband did it, and within 2 hours of drinking that prune juice I was FINALLY allowed to leave! You won't be moving much until 1 week AFTER the surgery and you definitely have to FORCE YOURSELF to move...that little breather thing they give you is supposed to work you out to prevent infection...I did it all the time..it was a pain in the tummy but I figured an infection would be worse! Plus, having the numbness for seemingly FOREVER AFTER is not very nice either...good luck to you whatever happens! I've never experienced natural birth so I don't even know what it's like...my babies were not so cooperative!
